  2. Windspires: By generating wind power, the windspires help provide the Racine Campus with sustainable energy that’s clean, cost-effective and renewable. 
  3. Purple Martin House: Sadly, the population of Purple Martins is rapidly declining due to pesticide use. To help, Gateway set up a house to allow multiple birds to build nests at the same time.

  7. Solar Panels: Our efficient, high-quality solar panels, which were manufactured in Wisconsin, provide sustainable solar energy to the Racine Campus. 
  8. Lake Michigan: More than just a beautiful backdrop to campus, the lake is a vital resource that provides drinking water, supports wildlife and benefits the regional economy. 
  9. Green Space: This pretty area is aesthetically pleasing and offers wonderful benefits, like boosting your mood, improving air quality and mitigating climate change. 
  10. Green Roof: Green roofs offer many great environmental benefits – they provide water for area plants, reduce energy consumption and help clean the air! 
  11. LED Parking Lot: Lights LED lights require less energy and maintenance, making them a smart choice and the reason why nearly 95% of Gateway’s exterior lighting uses LED bulbs. 
  12. Rain Garden: Created in partnership with the Root-Pike Watershed Initiative Network, this space helps filter pollutants from runoff water before it reaches the storm drain and Lake Michigan. 
  13. Environmental Bathrooms and Water Bottle Filler: Our dual-flush toilets and automatic faucets save on water being used, while the bottle fillers help minimize plastic waste.
