Those considering college but unsure of how to get started, seeking guidance on how to select classes, apply for financial aid or determine career options, will benefit from Gateway Technical College’s Quick Start events.

Any student who submits an application or admission at either of the events will have their $30 application fee waived. Quick Start will be held 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., Dec. 11 in the lobby of the Center for Bioscience and Information Technology on the Kenosha Campus, 3520-30th Ave., and 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Dec. 12 at the student services center in the Racine Building on the Racine Campus 1001 S. Main St.

Experts from across Gateway will be on hand at both events to answer any questions potential students may have and help smooth the college inquiry, admission and enrollment process.

Some specific areas of interest include:

  • Learn more about Gateway’s career-training programs
  • Remember to bring high school transcripts, COMPASS or ACT scores (or test at the session). Those who do can be admitted to Gateway at the event.
  • Take the COMPASS assessment
  • Get assistance applying for financial aid. Go to gtc.edu/quickstart for a list of needed documents
  • Learn about the resources available to students through the Gateway Student Support Services.

One of the newly re-opened programs students may apply to is Medical Assistant. This popular, one-year program was closed to new applicants but is now open for application in December. Job openings for medical assistants remain strong in Southeastern Wisconsin. New to the program is that Gateway now hosts a testing site for the statewide medical assistant state certification exam.

More information can be found at gtc.edu/quickstart.
