Uniquely Abled Academy

The Uniquely Abled Academy offers the CNC Advanced Operator certificate program specifically tailored for young adults with diagnosed level one autism. Students will receive additional educational support and job placement services designed for them, extra classes that teach the soft skills necessary for the workplace and intensive support from our Student Accommodations & Accessibility Services (SAAS) team, which includes advising, tutoring and more.

Gateway will be offering a Spring 2025 Uniquely Abled Academy cohort at Gateway's SC Johnson iMET Center in Sturtevant. Academy classes will meet January 21 through June 30 Monday - Friday from 8 a.m. - 1 p.m. Students must complete the following requirements to be eligible for the Academy program:

  1. Complete the Gateway application for admission and be admitted to the CNC Advanced Operator Certificate program.
    1. Students must meet one of the following multiple measures to indicate math readiness for the program: earned a technical diploma or higher,* minimum cumulative high school GPA of 2.6 (unweighted); earned at least 12 college credits with a minimum GPA of 2.0; or submit proof of minimum test scores (14 ACT Math, 18 SAT Math, 237+ Accuplacer Arithmetic OR 250+ Accuplacer Algebra); or complete course 854-760 Pre-Technical Mathematics with a minimum grade of C or better. 
  2. Submit autism documentation using Gateway’s Accommodate system and have an approved accommodation plan on file.

Program cost: Uniquely Abled Academy students will receive a $2,500 scholarship to help cover tuition costs thanks to a generous donation from the Gene Haas Foundation.  Participants will be responsible for paying $700 in tuition as well as the cost for any needed safety shoes/glasses.
