Gateway provides keys to unlock potential for students to succeed, director says
Gateway Technical College has established itself as a premier institution of higher education, one where a solid education is available to all and barriers to success are removed to ensure students reach their goals. It’s a place where students thrive in and out of the classroom.
So says Jomarie Coloriano, Gateway Technical College’s director of Inclusive Excellence.
“Gateway embraces the diversity of its students and communities while maintaining a commitment to providing equitable access to education and career pathways no matter who they are, where they come from and their prior experiences,” says Coloriano.
“The services we provide allow students to focus on their goals – from veteran students navigating their educational benefits to first-generation students learning about the college environment, from basic needs programs to personalized services.”
When it comes to working with students, Coloriano believes in making sure to recognize that every student has their own, unique journey.
“My personal philosophy centers around the belief that every student deserves to feel seen, heard and valued,” says Coloriano. “I strive to create an environment where students feel they belong.
“In addition, it is essential to help them discover their strengths and empower them to be agents of their own success.”
Coloriano believes that a college degree is more than just a credential, it becomes a powerful key to unlocking future opportunities for graduates.
“In today's fast-evolving job market, a degree signals to employers that students have the technical skills and knowledge needed to contribute effectively from day one,” says Coloriano. “Degrees can open doors to higher-paying jobs, career advancement and lifelong learning opportunities.”
