Gateway Technical College’s simulated disaster training event March 12 on its Kenosha Campus was a success, giving students the ability to apply the skills they’ve gained in the classroom to a real-world simulated situation and learn to communicate with other groups at a mass emergency event.

The event simulated a three-vehicle accident with several sustaining injuries – including a pregnant woman – and one person dying.
Students practiced how they would communicate with other emergency service personnel and made sure patient safety remained a priority through the transfer of care.
The interprofessional simulation day, branded as Red Hawk Rescue, brought together students from Nursing, Physical Therapy Assistant and EMS/Paramedic programs.
