Jessica Diaz, Zaida Hernandez-Irisson, Madeline Aguilar
Zaida Hernandez-Irisson (Kenosha) was named Gateway Technical College’s District Star Ambassador at the Star Ambassador Awards ceremony held Feb. 26 in the Madrigrano Auditorium of the Conference Center on Gateway’s Kenosha Campus.
As District Ambassador, Hernandez-Irisson will represent the student voice of the college to communities in Kenosha, Racine and Walworth counties as well as speaking engagements at several public events held by the college each year. Hernandez-Irisson, an Electrical Engineering Technology and Electrical Engineering Technology-Biomedical Engineering programs student, will represent Gateway at a statewide leadership conference of District Ambassadors from each college of the Wisconsin Technical College System, serve as the keynote speaker at Gateway’s Adult High School completion ceremony and will also receive a Gateway Technical College Foundation Inc. tuition voucher.
Hernandez-Irisson was initially selected as Kenosha Campus Star Ambassador. Other Star Ambassadors selected include Jessica Diaz (Racine) for the Racine Campus, and Madeline Aguilar (Lake Geneva) for Burlington Center and the Elkhorn Campus. The procedure calls for the District Ambassador to be chosen from the field of three Star Ambassadors.
Aguilar is enrolled in Gateway’s Surgical Technology and Emergency Medical Technician programs, and Diaz is currently earning a General Studies Certificate.
As Star Ambassadors, Diaz and Aguilar also will receive Foundation tuition vouchers and serve as the student voice to communities and the college from their respective campus.
Hernandez-Irisson, Diaz and Aguilar were selected among a pool of 22 students nominated for the award from Gateway faculty and staff members. Nominees are selected based on their outstanding character, positive attitude, leadership, personal goals, communication skills, enthusiasm and self-confidence.
