Eight Gateway Technical College apprentice students were awarded $1,000 Great Lakes Higher Education Guaranty Corporation Tools of the Trade scholarships to help them cover out-of-pocket expenses such as tuition, tools and clothing so that they are able to complete their training.
The Gateway apprentices are part of a statewide effort by Great Lakes to award $200,000 in scholarships to 200 construction and industrial trade apprentices attending 15 Wisconsin Technical College System colleges. Recipients include military veterans, single parents, recent high school graduates and displaced workers.
Gateway apprentices awarded the scholarships are:
- Dustin Dassow (Burlington), plumbing
- Cody Erhardt (Racine), electrician
- Timothy Fitzsimmons (Racine), maintenance technician
- Jacob Heller (Racine), electrician
- Mike Janis (Racine), tool and die
- Anthony Manchester (Racine), electrician
- Shane Nelson (Racine), electrician
- Aaron Schely (Wind Lake), plumbing
