Gateway Technical College Culinary Arts students will put their culinary skills to the test at the “Wings in the Spring” cooking competition 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Feb. 28 at the SC Johnson Student Life Center on the Racine Campus, 1001 S. Main St.
The student Culinary Club will host the contest, which is open to any Culinary Arts student. The public is encouraged to come and sample and vote for their favorite wings.
Cost is $5, and diners will receive six different wings – one from each of the six teams – as well as celery, carrots, ranch dressing, a roll and a brownie. Diners then vote on their favorite wing, which will then decide the winner.
Each team will be helmed by a Culinary Arts Club member, who then will select their team from other Culinary Arts students. Wing recipes will vary, depending on the taste and selection of each team.
The contest helps student to stretch their culinary skills under the "pressure" of knowing they are competing against their fellow students, yet in a fun environment. Winners will receive equipment they can use in their culinary career.
