Gateway Technical College will host its annual Safety Day, a half-day event designed for employees and managers of small businesses to learn about safety and related techniques for the workplace. The event will be held starting at 7:30 a.m., and lunch will be served 12:20 p.m., March 12 at the Racine Building Conference Center on the Racine Campus, 1001 S. Main St.

The event includes a welcome by the co-sponsors and three concurrent sessions from which attendees may choose. Sessions will include training in the areas of emergency evacuation, workplace violence, material handling, record keeping, injury and illness prevention program (I2P2), hazard communications and electrical safety. At the request of last year’s participants, five new sessions were added this year: Workmen’s Comp 101, Job Hazard Assessment, NFPA 70E / Electrical Arc Flash Compliance, Ergonomics, and Lock Out Tag Out.

Cost for the conference is $20, which includes the sessions and networking lunch.

After lunch, a session of Heart Saver AED will be offered 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. for an added $20 fee. Those interested in this session should register at www.gtc.edu/webadvisor. The session is limited to 16 participants.

The conference is co-sponsored by OSHA, WisCon and the American Society of Safety Engineers.
