Gateway has begun offering courses which will provide training for gas utility construction, a very in-demand career field in Wisconsin and across the nation.
Students can begin their educational pathway to the career with the several new courses open for enrollment now. Area employers indicate more than 500 job openings in this field in the next three years caused by newly created jobs, retirement or resignations. Wages start at about $50,000 annually.
Students will gain the skills to be in the in-demand occupations of first responders to handle gas leaks on furnaces or other appliances as well as gas line emergencies, gas line installers and working on gas utility crews.
Many of the courses will be held at Gateway’s nationally known energy lab facilities, as well as in an outdoor training lab to simulate a neighborhood area for students to learn other gas line and related skills.
The simulated neighborhood to be built on the Kenosha Campus will provide the setting for training on the operation of large equipment, laying of natural gas line and being a first responder to business and residential dwellings.
The 10 courses open for enrollment are: 469-301 Intro to Gas Utility Industry; 469-310 Propane Operations; 469-302 Site Safety; 601-301 Basic Electricity and Circuits; 469-307 Plastic Piping; 469-308 National Fuel Gas Code for Utility Workers; 469-306 Steel Piping; 469-305 CDL Prep for Utility Workers; 442-102 Introduction to Welding; 804-370 Mathematics I/Applied.
