Gateway Technical College on Wednesday was presented the Manufacturing Skills Standards Council Authorized Center award for reaching the milestone of 1,000 or more MSSC certifications, the first college in the nation to receive this honor.
MSSC presented Gateway with the award which is for colleges and schools “around the country that are leaders in assessing individuals for MSSC industry-recognized nationally portable certifications.”
“It was an honor to accept this award on behalf of the instructors, staff, students and business partners who have worked hard to better their career pathways through the MSSC Certification process,” said Gateway Technical College President and CEO Bryan Albrecht.
MSSC presented the award as part of its “Industry Certifications: Closing Manufacturing Skills Gap in the Great Lakes Region” summit held in Indianapolis.
Gateway offers MSSC certifications in safety, quality, production processes and maintenance awareness as part of its manufacturing and engineering technology programs as well as its boot camps.
Certifications provide an added credential to a student’s completion certificate, diploma or degree. It gives them an edge over other applicants who may only have a traditional educational credential.
For employers, the certifications indicate that students have reached a level of competency that is recognized nationally by industry.
The Manufacturing Skill Standards Council, a 501(c)3 non-profit, is an industry-led, training, assessment and certification system focused on the core technical skills and knowledge needed by the nation's front-line production and material handling workers.
