Gateway Technical College has again been awarded a national workplace wellness award for its programs to promote employee and workplace wellness.
The Wellness Councils of America (WELCOA) recently recognized Gateway with a Gold Award which designates it as a Well Workplace and puts it on the List of America’s Healthiest Companies published by the group annually.
“This is a confirmation that Gateway places value on the health of its employees,” said Debbie Miller, Gateway director of Human Resources and Wellness Committee co-chairwoman. “It also shows that we provide health and wellness programs in a very methodical, planned and meaningful way.”
Miller said the college gathers data to offer programs to address the highest area of need and interest among its employees, and surveys them afterward to see if those efforts can be tailored to even better serve staff in the future.
“We have many employees who are doing the right things with their health, and these programs either help them to confirm that, or help them to start afresh with healthy behaviors and lifestyle,” says Miller.
The Well Workplace designation means Gateway is a national leader in corporate health, committed to the well-being of its employees and works to minimize health care claims and maximizing productivity. WELCOA points out that the award is driven by a rigorous criteria and that Gateway is now “recognized among the elite group of America’s healthiest companies.”
This is the second time Gateway has applied for the award – and the second time it has placed in the Gold category. The college received honors in 2011. This time, Gateway garnered two more points than six years ago, totaling 177.53 points, fewer than two points shy of reaching the Platinum category. Companies awarded with a Well Workplace designation fall into four categories – Bronze, Silver, Gold and Platinum. Gold is the second-highest category.
