Gateway Technical College and the Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development/Bureau of Apprenticeship Standards will announce, and hold an open house for, its new mechatronics registered apprenticeship program 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. June 20 at the SC Johnson integrated Manufacturing and Engineering Technology Center, 2320 Renaissance Blvd., Sturtevant.
The two groups encourage employers who need skilled workers for this advanced manufacturing career to attend the event.
Gateway and state officials worked to create the program after employers at a March apprenticeship forum hosted by the college indicated a great need for workers trained in mechatronics. Employers from Racine County, Kenosha County and Walworth County expressed interest.
The new program will help train workers for an in-demand career field, and benefit employers with a trained workforce.
