Ivan Rodriguez-Gonzalez was named Gateway Technical College’s District Star Ambassador at the Star Ambassador Awards ceremony held March 3 in the Madrigrano Auditorium of the Conference Center on Gateway’s Kenosha Campus.
Rodriguez-Gonzalez was initially selected as Kenosha Campus Star Ambassador. Other Star Ambassadors selected include Eric Kent for the Racine Campus and Vicki Zirbel for Burlington Center and Elkhorn Campus. District Ambassadors are chosen from the field of three Star Ambassadors.
As District Ambassador, Rodriguez-Gonzalez will represent the student voice of the college to communities in Kenosha County, Racine County and Walworth County as well as speaking engagements at several public events held by the college each year. Rodriguez-Gonzalez, a Surgical Technology program student, will represent Gateway at a statewide leadership conference of District Ambassadors from each college of the Wisconsin Technical College System, serve as the keynote speaker at Gateway’s Adult High School completion ceremony and will also receive a Gateway Technical College Foundation Inc. tuition voucher.
Zirbel is enrolled in Gateway’s CNC Production Technician program, and Kent is enrolled in the Human Services Associate program.
As Star Ambassadors, Zirbel and Kent also will receive Foundation tuition vouchers and serve as the student voice to communities and the college from their respective campus.
Nominees are selected based on their outstanding character, positive attitude, leadership, personal goals, communication skills, enthusiasm and self-confidence.
